Rizal van Geyzel, a renowned comedian & co-founder of Crackhouse Comedy, was detained in connection with three allegedly offensive films to religious and racial sensibilities.

According to his attorney Ramkarpal Singh, Rizal will spend a night at “Dang Wangi” jail. Geyzel had been dabbling in stand-up comedy & performed at corporate events, local and international shows, and local and international exhibitions.

Rizal Van Geyzel was born to a Chinese-Dutch father & a Turkish-Malay mother.

Sadly, he lost his mother on March 26, 2016, four years ago. Although his life’s darkest day had just passed, he got up on stage that evening, the day after burying his mother, and began telling jokes to get everyone laughing.

He had planned for a replacement if he wasn’t emotionally ready to appear for his audience. Other comedians kindly offered to step in and fill his spot to give him time to grieve. He ultimately chose to perform.

His mother, a secretary, had encouraged him when he chose to leave his secure position in the hotel sector in 2013 to pursue stand-up comedy full-time. However, the narrative of his military-serving father was very different.

According to Rizal, his father thought that his stand-up comedy was only a pastime and that he would soon return to the hotel profession. But these days, his primary source of income is stand-up comedy. He has performed in over 20 nations, including Australia and the United Kingdom.
