“Just before Schitt’s Creek, things were quite bleak,” she says. “My house had just burnt down, I had like, $3 in my bank account, I hadn’t worked in close to two years. And I had just blown my very first screen test — like blown it, blown it, blown it.”
Murphy said that she found herself crying a “very snotty cry” in the Pacific Ocean because she thought the universe was telling her that she shouldn’t be acting anymore and “this is not for you.” But, just two days later, Murphy says she got the audition for Schitt’s Creek.
During her appearance on Clarkson’s talk show, Annie Murphy performed a remix with the singer of her song A Little Bit Alexis, a popular tune with Schitt’s Creek’s fans. It’s definitely worth the watch! You can check it out below.
Back in 2014, Dan and Eugene Levy co-created the feel-good Canadian sitcom about an extremely wealthy, one-percent family that lost all of their money due to a bad business manager, so they are forced to live in a motel in a small town that they purchased in the 1990s as a joke because of the name.
Murphy stars alongside Dan and Eugene Levy, who play David and Johnny Rose, respectively; as well as Catherine O’Hara, who plays Moira Rose.
At first, Schitt’s Creek was on CBC in Canada and then it was picked up in 2015 by Pop TV in the United States, but everything changed in 2017 when Netflix started streaming the series. Not only has the ratings on Pop TV doubled every year, but Schitt’s Creek is now one of the most popular shows to binge on the streaming platform.
The show has also received recognition from the industry, as it received a nomination for outstanding comedy series at the 2019 Emmy Awards, as well as a best cast in a comedy nomination at the 2019 SAG Awards.
