Sarah Michelle Gellar to Reprise Role in Cruel Intentions Reboot
The devious Kathryn Merteuil is back!
Sarah Michelle Gellar announced via Instagram that she will reprise her role as Kathryn in NBCs television reboot of Cruel Intentions.
The post features a then and now snapshot of Gellar alongside director Roger Kumble and producer Neal Moritz—both worked in those roles in the original film.
The 1999 teen drama, starring Reece Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe, and Selma Blair, tells of a sickening bet between step-siblings, Kathryn and Sebastian (Gellar and Phillippe), to charm and bed Annette (Witherspoon), who vowed to remain pure until marriage.
The reboot is set to pick up where the film left off 15 years later and follows Kathryn as she schemes her way to taking over Valmont International, run by the son of her late step-brother, Sebastian.
It is unclear whether the remaining original cast will make an appearance. However in 2015, the ladies of the film reunited to attend a showing of Cruel Intentions: The Completely Unauthorized Musical Parody.
The trio sang along and graced the internet with a selfie, posted to Witherspoon’s Twitter.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed for an on-set reunion.
