1980's
Pablo was one of the most powerful men in the world and listed by Forbes as the 7th richest. He had an army of soldiers and criminals, a zoo, airplanes and private airstrips, and thought to be worth approximately $24billion. Whilst he is thought to have ordered the killings of hundreds of people including politicians, police and planted a bomb on Aviance flight 203 in 1989 killing 110 people, he also spent millions on the people of his home city of Medellin building parks, schools and churches.
1991
The US wanted Pablo extradited to face drug charges, however his lawyers negotiated that he serve five years in a prison that Pablo built, which resembled a luxury estate with no other prisoners and his own guards called La Catedral, where he continued to run his empire. Today it is in ruins and has been repeatedly dug up by treasure hunters.
1992
Not very long into his sentence Pablo ordered some killings within La Catedral following which the government arranged for a prison transfer when Pablo escaped and went into hiding. On the hunt to find him were his enemies who had come together and were financed by his main rival the Cali Cartel and a special US trained Colombian government task force. He was located in 1993 the day after his 44th birthday by the task force and shot dead in a shootout.
