The Georgia State Patrol is conducting an investigation into what took place. People were standing on top of the cars, jumping and dancing while they were there. After arriving on the scene, members of the Georgia State Patrol discovered that a large number of vehicles had blocked off the intersection of Memorial Drive and Capitol Avenue. The road was blocked by cars that had been abandoned, and no one was around to move them. According to the Georgia State University student who was present and captured the incident on video, it took place at approximately 1:30 a.m. on John Wesley Dobbs Boulevard, which is located between Courtland Street and Piedmont Avenue. It is possible to catch a glimpse of a white car performing donuts in the middle of the Courtland Street intersection. The units present were able to see a Dodge Charger performing stunts in the intersection from the air at one point. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the aviation unit witnessed the driver of the Charger exit the vehicle while carrying a gun, approach a large group of people, and fire a shot at them. After that, the people who were on the street fled. While the driver was getting back into the Charger, the helicopter unit followed him, and a trooper stopped the car with his patrol car. According to WSB-TV, the driver was arrested after two firearms were discovered in the vehicle that they were driving.
The driver, who had previously been convicted of a crime, was charged with reckless stunt driving, not having insurance, having a gun while being a convicted criminal, and acting in a reckless manner. All of these charges came after the driver was observed performing a dangerous maneuver. A passenger who had been sitting in the back seat of the Charger exited the vehicle and ran away on foot, only to be apprehended and charged with participating in street racing later.
