The shooting that took place downtown is being looked into by the Atlanta Police Department, which has been confirmed.

On Sunday evening, a spokesperson for the police department told FOX 5 that they had received a call about a person who had been shot at 120 Piedmont Avenue.

On Sunday evening, a large number of police cars could be seen parked outside of The Mix Apartments. The website for the building at Georgia State University says that the building offers off-campus housing for Georgia State University students.

The scene of the crime is just a few feet away from where law enforcement officers intervened the previous evening to stop some people from drag racing and performing stunt driving.

The Georgia State Patrol is conducting an investigation into what took place. People were standing on top of the cars, jumping and dancing while they were there. After arriving on the scene, members of the Georgia State Patrol discovered that a large number of vehicles had blocked off the intersection of Memorial Drive and Capitol Avenue. The road was blocked by cars that had been abandoned, and no one was around to move them. The driver, who had previously been convicted of a crime, was charged with reckless stunt driving, not having insurance, having a gun while being a convicted criminal, and acting in a reckless manner. All of these charges came after the driver was observed performing a dangerous maneuver. A passenger who had been sitting in the back seat of the Charger exited the vehicle and ran away on foot, only to be apprehended and charged with participating in street racing later.
