Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ , ‘Money’ Mayweather is one of the most successful professional boxers in the history of the sport. Over the span of 18 years, Mayweather’s successes have allowed him to accumulate over $280 million in net worth. To date, he is currently undefeated as a professional boxer at an astounding 46 wins and zero losses, a record that may never be duplicated in any weight-class ever again. Mayweather is also one of the most-polarizing figures in boxing as well. Love him or hate him, there’s no denying his talent. He is currently a five-division champion, having won ten world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes. He’s also been named Boxer of the Year by various organizations throughout his career multiple times. Forbes magazine has consistently ranked Mayweather as one of the top earning professional athletes for each of the past 5 years.

We could go on and on about Mayweather’s incredible successes in the ring and profound net worth, but how about some things you may not know about the champ. Check them out…

Rough Childhood

People who watched one of the HBO specials leading up to one of Mayweather’s fights know that he didn’t have the easiest of childhood. In fact, his relationship with his father is rocky at best. Well, there’s a reason that the relationship was strained. Mayweather went to live with his grandmother at age 16 because his father, a boxer himself, was a drug addict and got caught smuggling cocaine.

“Pretty Boy” Origin

Floyd Mayweather’s nickname is pretty much common knowledge for even the mild boxing fan. Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather was given the nickname as an amateur boxer by his teammates. He was able to remain bruise and cut-free because of his superior defensive techniques, thus the nickname was born.

Starting Young

Mayweather comes from a long line of boxers. As we mentioned is father was a boxer, but his uncles were also professional boxers. With boxing in his blood, Floyd started young. He was fitted with gloves at the age of seven and began to learn how to box. The rest is history.

Record Label

Mayweather’s relationship with rapper and hip-hop star Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson is well-documented. At the moment the two aren’t on the best of terms, but perhaps their past friendship inspired Mayweather to get into the hip-hop game. Mayweather started his own record label Philthy Rich Records. No much has come out of that just yet.

Oscar de la Hoya Fight

The talk for the past several years was all about Pacquiao and Mayweather. However, prior to that nonsense Mayweather set a pay-per-view record with 2.15 million buys for his fight with Oscar de lay Hoya. He is actually the top grossing pay-per-view fighter in the modern era.. and he makes sure you know he’s rich.
