EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Lauren Davidson Talks New Single "Live Laugh Love", Last Year's Ballads EP, And

This week saw Lauren Davidson release her brand new single “Live Laugh Love“, which we premiered on site the day before. It’s a brilliant country track that certainly shows off a new direction for her, one that’s exciting and interesting – to the extent where we can’t wait to hear more new music from her.

Lauren Davidson is a singer-songwriter from New York City. She’s been trying to establish a Nashville country community in the NYC, and her music is certainly helping to pave a way for that to happen. She’s been releasing her own music, with addicting tracks and unforgettable sounds; “Pouring Rain” is proof of that as it is her most-streamed song, to date – although we reckon that is set to change in the coming months with the release of her new single “Live Laugh Love”.

We had the incredible opportunity to interview this rising country star. We chatted about her new single “Live Laugh Love“, her upcoming music releases, her previous Ballads EP release, and her future career in music.

Hi Lauren, how are you today? What have you been up to recently?

Hiii! I’m great and hope you are too! I’ve been pretty busy prepping for tour season and working on getting some new music finished.

Hello, everyone, my name is Lauren Davidson and I’m a Country Artist and Songwriter from New York City!

Your new single is titled “Live Laugh Love”, can you tell us more about the track?

Yes! I’m so excited to get this single “Live Laugh Love” out after my Ballad EP. It’s a strong and sassy song that takes a spin on the common phrase.

What was it like co-writing the song?

It was interesting actually. I was approached on social media by a songwriter named Jason Hamor – he was interested in writing together. Honestly, at first, I was a little hesitant but then just decided I wanted to make new connections and go for it. So, I scheduled a time and brought in my producer and musical director Cristian Castro. We were in NYC and Jason was over Skype in Nebraska. We vibed instantly and popped this song out! I’ve loved playing it live as well – so much fun!

What has the reaction to the song been like so far?

I’ve gotten a great response to this song even prior to release from playing it live which is why I wanted to get into the studio and record it. It’s been really cool to hear and see everyone’s reactions and responses to a song that I love playing.

How does this song differ from your previous releases?

It’s strong and sassy but also tells a story I haven’t told before. I think this song is the first of the next phase of Lauren Davidson.

The track follows up your Ballads EP. Can you tell us more about that release?

Yes! I had written a bunch of these ballad storytelling songs that I loved but didn’t know how to space them out and release them. After thinking about it, it just clicked to package it together as a way to showcase the storytelling side of who I am. I’ve always loved ballads growing up – they’re timeless and these songs are a huge part of my story and it’s been cool to share that with my fans. Each song on that album represents something I have gone through in my life.

It’s been a while since you’ve dropped a music video to one of your tracks, do you plan to release one in the future?

Absolutely! I have some music I’m working on that will definitely have a video as well and we have some live acoustic videos of “Live Laugh Love” and some of the ballad songs from a session in NYC. I think the next single will definitely have a video and I’m really looking forward to that!

If “Live Laugh Love” had a music video what would your vision be for it? Describe what we would be watching.

This is an awesome question because I’ve spent some time thinking about this even though I don’t think we’re going to do a video for it. It would take place on a dark dimly lit street and in a crowded bar with neon lights. It would be smoky and sexy and the storyboard would essentially be the lyrics of the song – she’s gonna live her life, laugh through the night, love on some strangers…. and leave. It would be a lot of fun to film!

We can so imagine it now, it would be epic! What can we expect from you for the rest of 2019?

More music for sure and lots of live shows! We’ll be on the road a lot.

Which artists do you look up to and why?

So many but I do tend to love and admire female artists and voices. Grace Potter, Stevie Nicks, Maren Morris to name a few. The women in country music are totally kicking butt and I feel like there are some authentic and badass women in our industry.

What’s your dream when it comes to your career in music?

To tour full time on a bus is definitely one and I have some bucket list events and venues both big and small. I’d love to play the Grand Ole Opry someday as well. And love to hear my music on the radio!
