Dustin Hoffman Cancer Surgery: Rep Claims Operation and Treatment Successful
Much to everyone’s surprise, Dustin Hoffman‘s rep announced August 8th that he had been treated surgically and successfully cured of cancer.
His rep revealed, “It was detected early and he has been surgically cured. Dustin is feeling great and is in good health.” Hoffman is also said to be undergoing preventive treatments so that there’s a smaller chance of the cancer recurring over the next few years.
It’s remarkable that at 75 years old, Hoffman continues to be healthy and careful about his health. Most people that age either don’t have the resources to stay as healthy, or they don’t care.
There’s also the fact that Hoffman has been incredibly busy over the last few years, after having wrapped and promoted his directorial debut, Quartet.
More and more, cancer has started to become something that’s less frightening and more of a hurdle to overcome. While you definitely need the money, resources, and support to be able to overcome that hurdle, it’s no longer a death sentence to be diagnosed with cancer. There is also genetic testing and preventing treatments, as we saw with Angelina Jolie‘s case. Let’s hope that in another fifty years, it won’t even be looked upon as a life endangering disease, and instead something that can be cured quickly and easily. It may be wishful thinking, certainly, but stories like this give me hope.
Hoffman is currently filming Chef, which he may have taken a break from. He’s also in pre-production on Kung Fu Panda 3 and The Song of Names.
